I love to have a few woodland creatures on the loose in my house. Mostly, in the form of accents. It not only brings in a bit of whimsy but is a nod to the natural world; especially welcome, I think, for us urban dwellers.

A few pieces I've recently spotted that I might like to add to my menagerie:  The new bird-graced Silk Pillow Covers ($34, $39) at West Elm (South Lake Union, 2201 Westlake Ave.; 206.467.5798). (For added whimsy, perch their new Ceramic Inch Worm ($8) in a nearby plant pot or terrarium.) The new Owl Ablaze Lamp ($88) at Anthropologie (University Village, 2623 NE University Village St., Suite 7; 206.985.2101; Bellevue, The Shops at the Bravern, 11111 NE Eighth St.; 425.451.7171). And at Click! Design That Fits (West Seattle, 4540 California Ave. SW; 206.328.9252), there's the irrepressible Jonathan Adler Squirrel Match Strike ($42). In white porcelain, it has a frictional surface on its base that let's you stylishly ignite your fire, or candles.
